Double Delight For Team PRO
24th July 2018
Well what can we say about the 19th July 2018, a day that will always be remembered by those involved with #TeamPRO, especially those involved with both Captain Sedgwick and Sexy Secret. The day started in great anticipation as both PRO horses were vying for favouritism in their respective races and both looked to have good chances on the day.
Firstly we headed to the scenic racecourse of Chepstow where Captain Sedgwick was due to have her 3rd start of the season for trainer John Spearing. She'd been in cracking form at home and the whole team were very keen to get her out. We think she's a better horse on ground with a bit of cut in it, so running her on firm ground you wouldn't have said was in her favour, nor the fact that she had been dropped in trip to 7f. The saving grace was that she does like the undulations of Chepstow and the stiff uphill finish was always in her favour. She's a buzzy filly however regular rider Jane Elliott managed to settle her nicely in the early stages. She got outpaced as we thought she might approaching 3f out, but made good progress up the hill and took up the running in the final furlong to win going away by 1/2 length. She's a nice filly who we think should be in for a cracking season, she's really filled her big frame over the winter and we'd be surprised if she doesn't have more success this year. As the afternoon went on the excitement was building and word amongst all PRO owners was that our first ever double could well be on the cards. One of the nice things about Team PRO is that even if you aren't directly involved with each horse, they are all still supported as 'club horses' which is fantastic to see. As the preliminaries got under way at a sunny Leicester Racecourse , Sexy Secret full on confidence from his LTO victory, was strutting around the parade ring like he ran the show. Jack Mitchell retained the ride and all looked set for hopefully another good trip for both of them. Sexy Secret had never won back to back races, but he's a much more settled intelligent racehorse nowadays, who settles in his races and no longer needs to lead. He jumped well and setlled into 4th position, they went a good pace early on which only helped his chances. He got slightly outpaced 4 furlongs from home, but steadily began to make good progress until taking it up with a furlong to go and holding on for another victory in his determined trademark fashion. He really is in fine form and the handicapper hasn't been too harsh on him, the dream of our first Hattrick continues... Shares are also still available in him and more information can be found here - www.personalracehorseowners.co.uk/sexy-secret
Considering we've currently got 5 horses in training, the chances of two running on the same day are slim, but for two of them to win on the same day is frankly unbelievable. A huge well done to team Lydia Pearce who are having a fantastic season and also to team John Spearing, whom we'd like to wish all the best to as he recovers from a very nasty training accident recently. A day that will never be forgotten as we managed a magnificent across the card double!
The #TeamPRO brand keeps going from strength to strength, considering we managed just 1 victory in 2017 and are now sitting on a nice 6 for 2018 with plenty of the year left to go, just shows how good things take time, especially in the racing industry. We'd like to say a huge thanks to all of our trainers and their respective teams, they all do a fantastic job and it's nice to see them have success, in what is a very competitive game. We've got a couple of new recruits that we are working on in the pipeline, so do get in touch for more details if you're interested in being part of the fun!
