Lucy is a very talented multipurpose trainer who’s based right in the heart of Newmarket at Moulton Paddocks stables. She became involved in racing initially through riding and training point-to-pointers, which she combined with working for the BBC in London. She first took out her training licence in 1997 and has had huge success in both codes, including a grade 1 winner over the jumps and a group 2 winner on the flat. The yard is mainly a National Hunt stable and is currently the largest NH operation in Newmarket, with over 30 jumpers in the ranks. Lucy’s team have an impressive strike rate for a yard of their size and have consistently produced a very good winner to runner’s ratio of around 15% over the last 5 years. Their most notable performer would have to a fantastic horse called ‘United’ who won the Irish Champion 4YO Hurdle, Punchestown (Grade 1). The stable’s main jockey is currently Leighton Aspell who they share with one of our other trainer’s Oliver Sherwood. It’s always great to get his honest opinion on our horses, as he is regularly riding out/schooling for both of our trainers. It’s always a pleasure visiting Lucy and her team, they are all very welcoming and the stable is located in a stunning part of Newmarket, hidden away from all the hustle and bustle. Being a ‘family’ orientated stable with both Lucy’s husband Justin and their 3 daughters working within the yard, you can see the amount of pride they take with their work. The horses are always turned out in fantastic condition and given the correct amount of time they need to be at their best. With all our PRO trainers, we are very selective with who we get involved with as we have to be able to work with them and always put the horses best interest first. We are very happy to be working with Lucy and we’re sure we will have plenty of success together!
